Blow Your Socks Off 2019

Blow Your Socks Off (BYSO) is a week long summer camp with organised instructor led activities every day.

The camp is aimed primarily at Scouts and Explorers (and their equivalent Guide Sections) but Cubs are welcome and would be able to take part in almost all activities. Running from Saturday 10th to Saturday 17th August the draft program is as follows:

Saturday 10th August:           

Camp opens. Site Activities running throughout the day. Camp Opening around the Campfire in the evening

Sunday, Monday, Wednesday & Thursday:                

Four days of structured themed instructor led activities. Three days will be on site utilising all the Paccar Adventurous activities along with many additional activities, everything is instructor led. The fourth will be a Water Activities Day at a local Centre, transport etc all included

Tuesday:

Challenge Day. This is a day where groups can decide how active they want to be. For those who come from a long distance they might want to take the train into London (a travelcard covering London Transport, RiverBus etc is circa £18 adults and £9 Children) others might want to stay on site or walk into the local village etc. The Challenges can be completed on site, locally or in Central London.

Friday:

It’s a Knockout. A very popular end to the week with everyone taking part together and a party to end the week in the evening.

Saturday 17th August: 

Break Camp, head for home and a nice hot bath.. Some on-site activities will be running throughout the day to keep your young people amused while you pack everything away

Activities throughout the week will vary and are designed to cover all age groups. To give you an idea, last year the activities were as follows, this year will be similar with some small changes here and there depending on availability etc:

Kayaking, Dragon Boating, Raft Building, High Ropes, Climbing, Caving, Crate Stacking, Abseiling, Leap of faith, Quick Drop, Gladiator Challenge, High All Aboard, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Zip Wires, Inflatables, JCB’s, Tree Climbing, and loads more. There wasn’t be enough hours in the day to do them all.

We also have an extensive range of alternative activities. We have a team of specialist instructors running a backwoods cooking & survival training station, an extensive array of teambuilding challenges a craft tent in the afternoons so on. Each evening there’s a communal activity, Campfire, Film Night, Karaoke, Disco and a selection of “After Dark” activities / Wide Games including Night Hike and so on.

Competitions will be running each evening throughout the week in Archery, Rifle Shooting (on our 10m Competition Range using Competition Rifles) and no PACCAR Camp would be complete without Toilet Golf and Welly Wanging !!! 

Day Out:

Every year there is an opportunity to join a Day Out (at extra cost). In the past there has been a trip to Harry Potter World, Thorpe Park etc. We try to make it a different trip each year

PRICES AND PAYMENT:

Camp Fees & All Activities:

£110.00 per participant

£50.00 per leader

Meal Deals: (Fully Catered; three meals a day plus supper):

£70 per person

To secure your places please send a deposit of £10 per head. You can pay by cheque made payable to Paccar Scout Camp, by Credit/Debit Card over the phone or by Bank Transfer to:

Interim payment:

Payment of a further £40 per head is required by 31st May.

Final Numbers:

We will have to book ahead and commit to a lot of expenditure for hired in equipment, activities and so on, therefore final numbers need to be confirmed by 31st May. Once you have submitted your numbers you will be committed to this number. You will be able to increase your numbers by up to 10% to allow for late joiners etc, but you will not be able to decrease after this time.

Final payment:

The balance must be paid in full by 14th July. 

FOOD & CATERING:

The fully catered “Meal Deal” option will start at Lunch on Saturday 10th and will provide Breakfast, Lunch and Evening Meal and Supper every day. The last meal provided will be lunch on Saturday 17th.

For those groups doing their own catering Altar Fires are available without charge. Please include them on your booking form.

GROUPS WITHOUT LEADERS:

We welcome Scouts & Explorers without Leaders. Explorers can come on a Passport, Scouts must come in Patrols and will be allocated a Service Crew member who will keep an eye on them. We also have groups coming to the camp who are willing to “adopt” Scouts coming without leaders for the week. All Young People coming without leaders must come on the fully catered option.

The same applies to Guides and Senior Section members, following the appropriate Girl Guiding rules.
