The weekend takes the form of a SURVIVAL SKILLS WEEKEND based in the Bushcraft Area deep in the woods of PACCAR Scout camp. It’s run as a competition with points being awarded for Shelter Building, Food Preparation, Challenges and so on.
The Competition starts 9:00am Saturday and runs till 3:00pm Sunday and will be. It is hoped all entrants will arrive on Friday and camp on Franks field Friday night. Tents will be left up Saturday as emergency accommodation in case shelter building doesn’t go according to plan.
An emergency tent is compulsory and must be pitched in Franks Field by Saturday morning whether camping on Friday night or not.
At least one Leader will be required to stay on site for the weekend, but not with their team(s). We will be asking Leaders to help from time to time during the weekend
Food will be provided for all participants from Saturday Breakfast onwards. They will need to cook their own breakfast on Saturday Morning and be ready to start the competition at 9:00am.
Participants will be cooking all their meals on open fires. During the day Saturday they will be building shelters that they will hopefully sleep in overnight. They must bring tarpaulins to use for their shelters in case of emergency but will gain more points for using natural materials.
There will be random challenges set during the weekend.
PRICES AND PAYMENT:
£30.00 per Scout
£10.00 per Leader / Helper to cover food costs
Each team will need to bring a Small RuckSack of Survival items
- 5ltr water carrier
- Cooking Utensils / Billys etc
- Plastic sheet / tarpaulin
- Fire Steel
- Sheath Knife (let us know if you don’t have one for each Scout, we may be able to help)
The Organisers will provide:
- Matches and Firelighters should they be needed
- Food from Saturday lunchtime onwards
- Expert guidance for safety
At least one member from EVERY TEAM must attend the practice day on Saturday 3rd September. We would prefer that all participants attend if at all possible. We would prefer that Leaders attend this day too, but can work around it if that’s totally impossible.
TEAM SIZES & RATIOS
A team can be made up of either two or three scouts. Each Group (not each team) must have one leader attending.
Leaders will be able to socialise etc in the Coffee shop at SkyBase (the heart of the SkyCamp Event) and at the SkyBar on Saturday evening
